The person behind the camera
I’m José Rizzo, a multilingual, self-taught documentary filmmaker.
I’ve been crossing borders since I was 90 days old. Adapting was never a skill I had to learn. It was the starting point. With each relocation came more perspective, and an ever-growing fascination with stories about belonging.
After years hustling through commercial roles, and accelerating my hair loss in the process, I stepped off the well-worn path and fell in love with filmmaking. It draws on everything I’ve learned navigating cultures, but demands different tools. Show more, say less. One frame at a time.
Right now I’m focused on the people around me who have a story to tell. Befriending strangers has always come naturally to me, but so far I’ve been creating alone. That’s where you come in.
